The First Camp Oven

It was lunchtime, we were camping in Indiana at Pokagon State Park and we REALLY WANTED PIZZA! I mean, who doesn’t? Of course… Pizza isn’t very easy to make over an open fire, so we used what we could conjure from our gear and the general store at the park to create the first ever Camp Oven!

It almost fell over twice, had to have multiple weights and stones to keep it together and looked like a tinfoil abomination; BUT it made us some fantastic pizza!

As campers started to smell the smokey, wood-fired pizza when they walked by it became clear to us that more of the world needs Campfire Pizza and from that, the Camp Oven was born!

Designed With Purpose

I remember looking at the size of it and thinking “Nobody will want to pack this thing”, so I started with that: “make it easy to pack”.

The outdoor world, in my experience, demands utility AND function, so I kept thinking about how to flatten it so it was easy to store and carry, easy to clean, and easy to use when I landed on the idea of making it break into several pieces that can easily be strapped together. I jumped into my design software and had the first official Camp Oven Prototype ordered within a week!

I spent the next six month cooking with it, beating it up, leaving it to the elements and otherwise scrutinizing it until I was certain I had a stellar, easy-to-use Camp Oven. Over those months the oven:

  • Was reduced in overall size (Depth, Height, Width)

  • Grill grating was reduced (Less of a grill, more of a rack)

  • Material thickness was increased (Prototype thickness was bowing too much)

  • Added features to make assembly easier (Interlock of Back to LH Side/RH Side)

  • US Supplier was located/contracted

  • Packaging created/contracted

We released the Camp Oven for Pre-Order Sale early in November of 2024 with a sale through Black Friday! These are the first of the Camp Ovens to go into the wild and they will all be delivered before Christmas AS GUARANTEED! :D

To keep the ball rolling on this awesome product, we’ve continued to offer the Pre-Order Sale Price through the END OF THE YEAR, with the second batch GUARANTEED TO SHIP/DELIVER Q1 of 2025 (Should be shipped by 01/31/2025).
